Hoboken (NBp) - Back in 1991, Jerry Quizzly was hit by the recession and
forced to cutback on his spending. At the time, he weighed 173 pounds.
But, since February of that year the economy has been booming, and Quizzly
has been eating better. For the first time in history, Quizzly has been
expanding for a record 107 months.
"I remember being surprised when I gained a pound in February '91",
said Quizzly. "I hadn't gained weight for a while. I knew things were
looking up."
Quizzly has been steadily eating richer and better foods over the years,
and his weight has grown every month since February '91. He now weighs 382
pounds.
"Though some people have told me to go on a diet, I'm really enjoying
myself," explained Quizzly. "After all, shouldn't we take advantage of our
prosperity?"
Quizzly is a bit concerned about the upcoming meeting of the Federal
Reserve Bank. His reasoning is that if the Fed increases interest rates,
he will possibly have to cut down on some of the better foods he eats.
If things get really bad, he may even lose weight.
Fed chief Alan Greenspan has been closely tracking Quizzly's weight.
He is worried that Quizzly's incredible expansion may soon lead to
out of control inflation that could cause Quizzly to double in size
and possibly float away, a rare but serious condition.
Since 1997, Quizzly's weight has been used by leading economists as
an indicator of the economy's prosperity.
