Washington (NBp) - Fans of Hillary Clinton have been hoping for months
that the First Lady would jump into the race for the U.S. Senate in 2000.
Speculation centered around the rumor that Clinton would run for Senate
in New York. In a surprise twist, however, Clinton announced today that she
would be running in every state that has a Senate seat up for election
next year.

Senate candidacy today. |
"Let me make one thing perfectly clear: I will be a United States
Senator in 2001," exclaimed Clinton to the awed onlookers. "If I don't
win in New York, maybe I'll win in Arkansas... or Michigan... or North Dakota.
Maybe I'll win in more than one state. That would be fun!"
Pollsters immediately started gauging public reaction to the
announcement. Clinton still holds a favorable rating in New York, and today's
polls show that Clinton may win against incumbant senators in many states
on name recognition alone.
"We've found that many people do not even know who their senators are,"
explained pollster Howard Cube. "In fact, many people do not even realize that
they have two senators in their state. Nearly all of the people polled knew
who Hillary Clinton was and had a favorable impression. Only about 10% could
name their senators, which is roughly equivalent to the number that could
name their third grade math teacher."
When discussing her platform for the upcoming election,
Clinton stated that "every state has its problems. If you elect me as a senator
in your state, I will have someone on my staff personally find out what the problems
are there and try to do something about them. I will even travel to your state
personally at least once a year, weather permitting."
Clinton concluded, "America needs a new senator, and I am that person!"
