New Orleans, Louisiana (NBp) - Nearly 200 years after the original
Louisiana Purchase, area resident Rose Greenly made the most recent of Louisiana Purchases.
In 1803, the United States negotiated the Louisiana Purchase with
France. The US got an excellent bargain in the deal, paying $15 million
to double the size of the country.
Similarly, Mrs. Greenly's Louisiana Purchase was also a bargain.

"I was doing my shopping at Fred's FoodMart," explained Greenly, "when I spotted that special on socks. I couldn't believe my luck! They were just
$3.97 for three pairs of high quality cotton socks. I bought two
packs, doubling the size of my sock collection!"
"President Thomas Jefferson, whose name I share, had the foresight
to know a good bargain when he saw one," President Clinton said at a press conference. "I would like to congratulate Rose Greenly on
recognizing a good value as she brought our nation the latest
Louisiana Purchase."
The Louisiana Purchase of 1999 is just the latest in a string of
successful purchases for Louisiana residents and visitors alike.
In 1998, Ohio resident Mabel Firth purchased a New Orleans collectors'
spoon for $4.99.
