South Beach, NC (NBp) - Residents of South Beach, NC came home from work yesterday and were greeted by the daily South Beach Gazette newspaper. Everything seemed just as it should be, except the newspaper did not have an article about Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. With just 32 hours to go for the release of the new Star Wars movie, residents were shocked at the lack of new Star Wars news. The President himself is planning to see Star Wars at 12:01AM sharp on May 19th.

Word of the lapse spread quickly through this small town of 5,000. Within hours, dozens of websites sprang up condemning the South Beach Gazette and South Beach's residents for their lack of enthusiasm.

By 10PM, thousands of Star Wars fans dressed as Storm Troopers, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and even a couple of Emperors had streamed into South Beach wielding their lightsabers and laser guns. By 1AM this morning, the Mayor of South Beach conceded defeat as one particular Emperor Palpatine claimed control of the city.

This is the first known case of elected officials losing control of a city to a group of movie fans.
