Elmira, ND (NBp) - For Skip Cunningham, reporter for Channel 47
Action News, covering the news in Elmira provides unique challenges.
"Elmira is a thriving community of 8,600 people, and they all count
on me to tell them what is happening in the world," explained
Cunningham. "Channel 47 is the only television station available in
these parts, so it is really the only portal to the rest of the
world. Sam Cremply had bought a satellite dish, but it was destroyed
by vandals. They never did track down who did that."
"I am the conduit, if you will, that brings America and the world
at large to Elmira," Cunningham continued. "In that regard, I'm
more important than even the mayor. Which is why I had the idea of
creating a story about me. I mean, after all, I am
the news in this town."
Through Channel 47's lock on news in Elmira, Cunningham single
handedly broke some of the biggest stories of the decade.
Cunningham elaborated, "OJ, Whitewater, Lewinsky... and many more
were seen first on Action47 in Elmira. In addition, we have more local
news than anyone else, like the three attempts that cable companies
have made to bring cable to the area only to be hampered by trees
nearly falling on the workers and other troubles."

Spiffy logo created by Cunningham when a computer
similar to the one stolen from TwinCitiesCable was anonymously
donated to Channel 47.
"As far as the citizens of Elmira know, I am the most decorated
reporter in the world. Action47 has aired stories about my Pulitzer
victories in 5 of the last 7 years. As you can tell, Elmira is
important to me and the others at Channel 47. The citizens of
Elmira are like a happy family of serfs, and I am the king."
