Jackson (NBp) - After MCI WorldCom announced its plan
to merge with Sprint yesterday, they needed to immediately
start figuring out how to deal with potentially negative
reactions from the government. Today, they reached an
agreement to purchase the Federal Communications
Commission from the US government.
"This is a purchase I wish I had made years ago,"
announced Bernie Ebbers, WorldCom CEO. "By buying the
FCC, we can now buy more companies and it will be
easier than ever before!"
Under terms of the deal, each taxpayer will receive
$100 in free long distance. This values the deal at about
$10 billion in free long distance services. Of course, you
must be a WorldCom customer to take advantage of the
offer.
The FCC announced today that they did not see any
problems with No. 2 WorldCom buying No. 3 Sprint. Nor,
do they see any problems with WorldCom buying Nos. 4, 5
and 6, which WorldCom announced plans to do on a whim.
In an unrelated story, the FCC announced today that
AT&T's license to operate has expired.
